Industrial Meets Home

In the heart of Capitol Hill’s residential NE neighborhood, lies a completely one of a kind industrial townhouse. This factory turned townhouse features original exposed brick, sealed concrete stairs and floors. Modern updates include removing the second level at the entrance to create an impressive double height entryway. Massive steal beams reinforce the existing structure, creating a space which celebrates structure instead of hiding it. Welcome to Factory House, where industrial meets home.

Fill the Space

We wanted to fill up the living space with a mid-century modern sectional leather sofa with a low, marble coffee table. Small, mixed shaped end tables add functional surface area to the space beside the sectional chaise. Adding a rubber plant breaks up the hard materials and gives the space a natural element.

Art in Architecture

Behind the sofa, hangs a series of framed photographs of sculptural stairs to further enforce the strong architectural presence in the space. A minimal picture light sits above each piece of art to add more ambiance to the space.

We enjoyed mixing various textures on the black leather sectional by having two types of square accessory pillows (ribbed, velvet pillows and thick, woven black with white striping pillows) along with lumber pillows with a leather horizontal band through the center. To bring out even more white and texture, we added a knit throw blanket for an extra cozy feeling in the space.
